Preparing
your Students for the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)
Kelsey P. Miller, Senior Marketing
Manager, Americas, Pearson Language Tests
PTE
Academic — the new,
computer-based test of English language proficiency —
measures real-life language ability through the use of tasks that
require test takers to produce language during the test session.
Different than "read and recall" item types, which can lend themselves
to strategies for "cracking" a test, PTE Academic
measures communicative skills (Reading, Writing, Speaking and
Listening) and enabling skills (Grammar, Oral Fluency, Pronunciation, Spelling,
Vocabulary and Written Discourse) using integrated item types. In this
way, it measures how students will be able to communicate in a
real-life academic setting.
Pearson is pleased to announce that we are making a number of materials
available to teachers to prepare their students to take PTE Academic.
The
Official Guide to PTE Academic
Now available for teachers and test takers is The
Official Guide to PTE
Academic, published by Pearson Longman. This
guide
provides information
on registering for and taking the test as well as valuable instruction
for understanding the different item types that PTE Academic uses.
The
guide is available in both electronic and hardcopy with companion
CD-ROM
format.
Skill
Pods
In addition to The
Official Guide to PTE Academic, we have developed our new
Skills Pods,
available at: http://www.pearsonpte.com/skills-pod/Pages/home.aspx
Skills Pods are available for both teachers and test takers.
The Skills Pod for teachers includes more than 90 online and offline
recommended resources for teachers to help students develop the
Academic English language skills tested in PTE Academic. The
Skills Pod
website links the skills and subskills tested in PTE Academic with
teaching resources selected from internationally published ELT skills
course books (and related online content).
The Skills Pods materials
are available in several formats: books for teachers, books for
students, DVD and CD-ROM. For more information on the Skills Pod or PTE
Academic, send an email to usreco@pearson.com.
