What's the Best ESOL Curriculum for 2009? (Could It Be NorthStar?)
John Brezinsky, Higher Education Marketing Manager

What’s the secret to a winning ESOL curriculum? Integration. Instead of separating language from content, grammar and vocabulary from language skills, and textbooks from software, everything must be integrated into a comprehensive program. NorthStar has the award to prove it.

How It Happened

It took 50 people three years to create the new NorthStar and MyNorthStarLab. They spent countless hours designing new materials and working with teachers to make sure everything flowed well. Once the books were ready, it was time to pilot using the online MyNorthStarLab in conjunction with the books.

This year, the Association of Educational Publishers announced that the NorthStar series (including MyNorthStarLab) contained the best curriculum for ESL students in the nation. The Distinguished Achievement Award goes to only one series each year, and NorthStar was this year’s proud recipient.

How It Works

The NorthStar series connects with students through compelling content, challenges them to think critically, and empowers them to reach their personal and academic goals. It does all this with a fully integrated curriculum: students practice reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, and academic skills—both in class and online.
