ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Margaret Bonner has taught ESL at Hunter College and the Borough of Manhattan Community College of the City University of New York, at Taiwan National University in Taipei, and at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She holds a master’s degree in Library Science from Columbia University, and she has done work toward a Ph.D. in English Literature at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

She has authored and co-authored numerous ESL and EFL print and multimedia materials, including textbooks for the national school system of Oman, Step into Writing: A Basic Writing Text, Focus on Grammar 4: An Integrated Skills Approach, Focus on Grammar 4 Workbook, Grammar Express Basic, Grammar Express Basic CD-ROM, Grammar Express Basic Workbook, Grammar Express Intermediate, Focus on Grammar 3 CD-ROM, Focus on Grammar 4 CD-ROM, Longman English Interactive 4, and The Oxford Picture Dictionary Intermediate Workbook.


Marjorie Fuchs has taught ESL at New York City Technical College and LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York, and EFL at the Sprach Studio Lingua Nova in Munich, Germany. She has a master’s degree in Applied English Linguistics and a certificate in TESOL from the University of Wisconsin—Madison.

She has authored and co-authored many widely used books and multimedia materials, notably Crossroads, Top Twenty ESL Word Games: Beginning Vocabulary Development, Families: Ten Card Games for Language Learners, Focus on Grammar 4: An Integrated Skills Approach, Focus on Grammar 3 CD-ROM, Focus on Grammar 4 CD-ROM, Longman English Interactive 3 and 4, Grammar Express Basic, Grammar Express Basic CD-ROM, Grammar Express Intermediate, and the workbooks to the Longman Dictionary of American English, the Longman Photo Dictionary, the Oxford Picture Dictionary, Focus on Grammar 3 and 4, and Grammar Express Basic.


Jay Maurer has taught English in binational centers, colleges, and universities in Portugal, Spain, Mexcio, the Somali Republic, and the United States; and intensive English at Columbia University’s American Language Program. In addition, he has been a teacher of college composition and literature at Santa Fe Community College and Northern New Mexico Community College.

He is the co-author of the three-level Structure Practice in Context series, co-author of the five-lever True Colors series; co-author of the True Voices video series; co-author of Teen Zone II; and author of Focus on Grammar 5: An Integrated Skills Approach. Currently he writes and teaches in Seattle, Washington. Focus on Grammar 5: An Integrated Skills Approach, Third Edition, has grown out of the author’s experiences as a practicing teacher of both ESL and college writing.


Irene E. Schoenberg has taught ESL for more than two decades at Hunter College’s International English Language Institute and at Columbia University’s American Language Program. She has trained ESL and EFL teachers at Columbia University’s Teachers College and at the New School University. She has given workshops and academic presentations at conferences, English language schools, and universities in Brazil, Chile, Dubai, El Salvador, Guatemala, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Taiwan, Thailand, and throughout the United States.

Ms. Schoenberg is the author ofTalk about Trivia; Talk about Values; Speaking of Values 1: Conversations and Listening; Topics from A to Z, Book 1 and 2; and the basic level of Focus on Grammar. She is the co-author with Jay Maurer of the True Colors series and Focus on Grammar 1.

Ms. Schoenberg holds a master’s degree in TESOL from Columbia University.


Miriam Westheimer taught EFL at all levels of instruction in Haifa, Israel, for a period of six years. She has also taught ESL at Queens College, at LaGuardia Community College, and in the American Language Program of Columbia University. She holds a master’s degree in TESOL and a doctorate in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College of Columbia University. She is the co-author of a communicative grammar program developed and widely used in Israel.
