The High
Five Game
Goals: to practice greetings; to talk about cultures
|
- Teach the students how to shake hands or how to "high
five" (two students raise their arms high and then slap their
upraised hands together). Then teach this introduction: "Hello. I
am (Maria)."
- Begin the game by saying the introduction with your own name and
then shaking hands or giving the "high five" to a student.
That student repeats the introduction with his or her own name and
then shakes hands with or "high fives" the teacher.
- When the students understand what to do, have them circulate around
the room, find partners, say the introduction, and continue
circulating.
- Stop the activity when all the students have practiced several
exchanges.
- Invite students to tell how they say hello and greet one another in
other cultures.
