Memory Game
Goals: to practice vocabulary; to talk about immigration experiences

  1. Suggest that newcomers play a memory game using their own memories of the first thing they did upon arriving in the United States. The first student might say, "The first thing I did was hug my grandmother." The second player adds his or her own first thing, "The first things I did in the United States were hug my grandmother and eat lunch."

  2. Vary the game by using food or other topics in place of memories.
