Goals: to identify places; to describe locations

  1. Prepare a poster with pictures and names of various businesses listed on it.

    For example:
Throgg's Hardware Store, Dale's Department Store,
    Dooley's Drugs, Pietro's Pizza

  2. Assign teams of students specific rooms in the house and have them write on 3" x  5" cards the names of five items found in that room.

  3. Collect the cards and place them in a large container. Ask students to take turns picking a card from the container, reading the name of the object, and pointing to and saying the name of a store where they can buy one.

    For example:
"A wooden spoon. I can buy one in Dale's Department Store."

  4. Extend the activity by having students describe how to get to the business location. Each correct answer is worth one point. The team with the most points wins.
