Tic-Tac-Talk
Goals: to describe actions; to use picture cues

  1. Write the name of each verb tense you want to review on a separate 3" x 5" card.

  2. Have students cut out about twenty photographs of things or people doing things and glue them to a large sheet of cardboard or chart paper.

  3. Divide the class into two groups. Make a Tic-Tac-Toe grid on the chalkboard and designate one group as the O team and the other as the X team.

  4. Have students take turns choosing a verb card and making up a sentence about one of the pictures using that verb tense.

    For example:
Teresa chooses a card marked Past Tense. She might point to a picture of a woman talking on the phone and say, "She talked on the phone."

  5. For each correct sentence, the student can add an X or an O to the Tic-Tac-Toe grid on the board.

  6. Keep a record of how many games each team wins.
