iBT Activity #4
Writing for Fluency
Pupose of the Activity
The purpose of this activity is to get students to improve their writing fluency because they must produce written responses very quickly on the iBT. In order to improve written fluency, some writing time must be focused on producing as much as possible in a limited period of time, without any attention on content, organization, or correctness.

the Texts
This activity can be used in preparation for all of the skills in the WRITING section of Longman Preparation Course for the TOEFL® Test: Next Generation iBT.
Organization of the
Activity
Give the students a topic, and have them write for two minutes on that topic. (You may want to discuss the topic for a few minutes before you have the students write so that they have some time to come up with some ideas.) Have them count the number of words produced rather than the number of errors. This activity should be done periodically, and students should keep track of their improvement in number of words produced.
