Search the Web to learn about fraud and false advertising.

Go to one of the websites shown below to learn about fraud and false advertising. How can you tell when an advertisement is making unreasonable claims? How can you avoid being a victim?

Part Two

Find an advertisement to analyze. It can be a TV commercial, a printed advertisement or an advertisement you see on the Internet. Answer the following questions.

1. Does the advertisement motivate the viewers to think, or does it merely appeal to their emotions? Explain.
2. What hopes, fears, or desires does the advertisement try to exploit? How?
3. What values or attitudes does the advertisement try to promote? For example, does it promote attitudes about success or happiness? How does this advertisement promote these values? Do you agree with these attitudes and values?
4. Would you say this advertisement makes outrageous claims? Is it fair or unfair? Why do you think so? Give evidence to support your opinion.
