About the Authors
Joan Saslow has taught English as a second language and English as
a foreign language to adults and young adults in the United States and
South America. She taught workplace English at the General Motors auto
assembly plant in Tarrytown, New York, and Adult ESL at Westchester Community
College and at Marymount College in New York. In addition, Ms. Saslow
taught English and French at the Binational Centers of Valparaíso
and Viña del Mar, Chile, and the Catholic University of Valparaíso.
Ms. Saslow is the series director of Longmans popular five-level
adult series True Colors, an EFL Course for Real Communication
and of True Voices, a five-level video course. She is author of
English in Context: Reading Comprehension for Science and Technology,
a three-level series for English for special purposes. In addition, Ms.
Saslow has been an editor of language teaching materials, a teacher trainer,
and a frequent speaker at gatherings of ESL and EFL teachers for more
than 30 years.
Tim Collins has taught English as a second language and English
as a foreign language to adults and young adults in the United States,
Spain, and Morocco. He taught English for special purposes at the Intensive
English Institute of the University of Illinois at Urbana. Dr. Collins
also taught high school ESL at Lycée Al Badissi, Al Hoceima, Morocco,
and advanced English composition at the University of Barcelona. In addition,
he taught college Spanish at the University of Illinois at Urbana.
Dr. Collins is Assistant Professor of Language Minority Education at National-Louis
University in Chicago, where he teaches in a teacher training program.
In addition, he has been a writer and editor of English as a second language
and adult education materials for more than 12 years. He is a frequent
speaker at professional ESL meetings. Dr. Collins' Ph.D. degree is from
the University of Texas at Austin.
