Workshops
on Our ESL Materials The information and materials presented at these product information sessions will provide schools with the necessary tools to effectively meet the NYS ESL learning standards and the NYS ELA standards, in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Pearson Longman publishes print and software materials to teach English language learners grades 6-12, and will provide a wide range of resources that are applicable to the instructional goals of the NYC DOE. Pearson Longman materials for ELL grades 6-12, are designed and published to the strictest requirements set forth by the USDOE NCLB act. Our programs and practices for English Language Learners are scientifically based and grounded in research with proven track records of success. Our materials are correlated to the NYS DOE, Office of Bilingual Education ESL Learning Standards and the NYS ELA Standards. Further, our materials align with the NYC Balanced Literacy approach and can be used to support the 5 skills set forth by NCLB:
Shining Star, a program specifically designed for English Language Learners in grades 6-12, gives students all of the support they need to master reading, writing, literature and content, within a systematic development framework. Shining Star provides explicit reading and writing instruction and teaches the specific reading and writing skills and strategies needed for academic success, in the mainstream classroom. Shining Star is aligned to the Balanced literacy approach and is designed for teachers to provide the core basis of balanced literacy:
