Do I need to have the CD in the CD drive for the programme to work?
You can choose from three types of installation:
Minimal - the program will only run if the CD is present Standard - the program runs from the hard drive but sounds will not play unless the CD is present Full - the program runs from the hard drive.
I have reinstalled the software, and now it doesn't work
On some computers, the CD-ROM will stop working (or not play sounds) after you have reinstalled the software to a different location on your computer, or if you have used different install preferences. To solve this problem, follow the instructions below.
If the dictionary is re-installed to a different location or with a different profile (Full, Standard, Minimal) then the Longman directory must be deleted manually from the following directories:
If you are using NT: c:\Windows\Profiles\username\Application Data\longman\Lad001pe
If you are using XP or 2000: c:\documents and settings\username\Application Data\Longman\Lad001pe
Note, on XP & w2000 the application data folder is hidden. To see this folder go to the Folder menu: Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Show hidden folders.
"username" above stands for any user who has used the dictionary.

I am using Windows NT/Windows 2000/Windows XP, and I get an error message when I try to install the software.
If you get an error message such as "You must be an Administrator to install programs on this computer" this means that you need to be logged on as an Administrator to install the CD. If you are on a networked computer (for example in a school or college, or on a company network) you may need to speak to your network administrator. If this doesn't help, click here to e-mail our support team.

The videos run very slowly. What can I do about it?
Windows uses software called DirectX to control the videos and other graphic elements. If you are experiencing slow performance it may be that you have out of date DirectX software.
You can download the latest DirectX version for free from: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.asp

The picture exercises don't have any text and I don't know what to do with them.
The picture exercises in the Longman Active Study Dictionary use Flash technology from Macromedia software.
The picture exercises should have text labels that you can drag onto the appropriate place. If you cannot see any text in the exercise below then please download the latest Flash player software for free from: http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/
