Marlin is a clown fish who lives in the Great Barrier Reef with his beloved son Nemo. As a single parent, Marlin tries hard to protect Nemo from the many dangers present in the water. On Nemo’s first day of school, Marlin warns Nemo about such dangers as swimming too far away and getting lost, attacked, or caught. Unfortunately, Nemo doesn’t pay attention to his father’s warnings and swims beyond the edge of the reef to explore a shipwreck. As his father watches helplessly, Nemo is captured by a diver. (Nemo is taken to live in a fish tank in a dentist’s office overlooking Sydney Harbor.) Meanwhile, Marlin frantically searches for his son. During his search, he meets Dory, a blue fish with memory problems. Together, Marlin and Dory set off to find Nemo. Along the way, they undertake many adventures and experience many dangers. Word of their adventures spreads through fish and fowl, and even Nemo in his fish tank hears of his father’s heroic rescue mission. Nemo, however, is planning his own escape with help from Gill and his other tank mates. Time is running out, though, because the dentist is planning to give Nemo to his niece Darla, who mistreats her pets. A gossip-loving pelican named Nigel helps Marlin and Dory in Sydney Harbor. After a number of mishaps, father and son are reunited and return home.
