2 tasks from a choice of 5 including: narratives, descriptions, discursive, a task-directed composition (eg a report, article or letter) or a composition on a set book.
Test Focus
- writing accurate, well-organised compositions
- demonstrating sensitivity to vocabulary, structures, style, layout and register
- demonstrating careful planning and sensitivity to reasons for writing and target audience

Section A
- passage with 20 gaps to be filled with one word letters
- sentence transformations using a 'lead in' phrase
- gapped sentences to be filled with a word or phrase
- sentence transformations using a 'key word'
Section B
- text with comprehension questions and summary task
Test Focus
- understanding and producing grammar and vocabulary at text and sentence level
- understanding of parallel expressions and structures and manipulating forms of words to fit the context
- understanding the main points of a text and opinions stated and implied

3 or 4 recordings with 25-30 questions. May include: multiple choice, gap filing, note taking and matching opinions with speakers
Test Focus
- identifying the main facts and ideas plus the details which support them
- identifying feelings expressed and implied by the speakers

Content
3 sections with 1 or more candidates:
- comparison of 3 photos
- commentary on a short passage
- communication activity, which may involve selecting, ranking, problem solving, discussing and making choices
Test Focus
- speaking co-operatively and naturally with accurate pronunciation, fluency, range of vocabulary and sensitivity to register
- speculating, negotiating, persuading, collaborating and justifying opinions and talking at length on a single topic
