At the moment the examination may seem a long time away, but there is a lot of work to cover and many new skills to learn. Here are some tips to get you started.
Organise your work, your time and your learning
A personal organiser can help you to organise your time and your learning (particularly vocabulary and grammar). Wordflotm contains many useful learning techniques.
Get a good dictionary and learn how it works so you can use it quickly and effectively. The Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English or Language Activator are useful for exam students.
You might also want a good bilingual dictionary. Your teacher can suggest a good one. Once again you should learn how to use it.
A good reference grammar will help with explanations of grammatical systems. The Longman English Grammar by L.G. Alexander is popular with both teachers and students because it is so clear and well organised.
Organise your time for different types of learning
Enjoy your lessons and attend regularly. Concentrate on your lessons and try to make notes of what you have learnt. Organise your work for easy reference.
Make time for homework assignments and self study
You will also need time for relaxed learning. Watch TV and movies in English, listen to songs in English, surf the Internet for English language sites which interest you and try to read in English.
Meet up with the other students outside of class and try to speak in English. It may seem strange, but it all helps.
