VERSANT ENGLISH TESTS
Versant is a 15-minute spoken English test for adults which presents six different tasks, including reading sentences, repeating sentences, answering short questions, building sentences, story retelling, and answering open questions.
Once a test is taken, the automated testing system produces an overall Versant score based on key dimensions of spoken language performance: Sentence Mastery, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Pronunciation. The score report includes the candidate’s overall score and sub-scores, with detailed explanations of language capabilities and score mapping to TOEIC, TOEFL and CEF-R.
VERSANT JUNIOR ENGLISH TEST
The Versant™ Junior English Test, evaluates the spoken English skills of school-age students whose native language is not English.
The automated test system produces an overall Versant score based on key dimensions of spoken language performance: Sentence Structure, Fluency, Pronunciation, Word Meaning, Vocabulary (Level I Test only), and Word Recognition (Level II Test only).
The test can be taken by telephone or computer, and the score report becomes available online within minutes after the test is completed.

The Versant™ English Test automatically evaluates the spoken English skills of people whose native language is not English.
Versant tests are the result of years of research in speech recognition, statistical modeling, linguistics, and testing theory by the Knowledge Technologies group of Pearson. Using the patented speech testing technologies, Pearson delivers the Versant English Test, Versant Jr. English Test, Versant Spanish Test, Versant Arabic Test, Versant Aviation English Test, and Dutch Immigration Language Test.
The test administration process is very simple.

  1. The test administrator provides the candidate with the test instructions and test paper.
  2. The candidate uses a unique test identification number to start the test by telephone or computer.
  3. The candidate answers the test questions and the responses are scored automatically.
  4. The test administrator retrieves the candidate’s score from the online reporting system within minutes after the test is completed.
