Unit
12 - Mind over matter
Oliver
Sachs is a British neurologist who has written seven books on
the relationship between mind and body. His book Awakenings,
about a group of encephalitis patients, inspired a play by Harold
Pinter and was made into a film starring Robert DeNiro and Robin
Williams in 1990.
Parapsychology
is the study of things not normally covered by psychology such as
telepathy (sending and receiving thoughts/ideas using your mind
only). When the writer Arthur Koestler died he left a bequest for
the establishment of a parapsychology unit at a British university.
Eventually the Koestler
Parapsychology Unit was set up at Edinburgh University. Visit
the site to try some of their on-line tests.
