Unit
13 - An interesting business
The Grameen
Bank was set up to provide small loans to poor people working
in Bangladesh. The idea was to give the loans at a repayment rate
that people could afford. Since then the bank has grown enormously
and many people have benefited by using the loans to create their
own profitable businesses.
Since creating
the wind-up radio, Trevor Baylis has gone on to create other
similar
energy-saving inventions. His latest idea is to tap the energy
produced in shoes while people are walking. However, his latest
venture, The
Electric Shoe Company, is seemingly out of business.
