Hide-and-Seek
Goals: to give instructions; to request information;
to express spatial relations
1.
Divide the class into pairs and give several pictures
of objects to each pair. Check that the pairs know the
English words for the objects shown in the pictures.
2. Tell the class that one student in each pair (the
hiders) should take the pictures and hide them (face
down) around the room. They should make a note of where
the pictures are. The others (the seekers) should close
their eyes during this phase.
3. When the pictures have been hidden, the hiders should
return to their seats. Once the students are all seated
again, tell the class that the goal of the game is to
find the pictures as quickly as possible, with the hiders
guiding their partners (the seekers). The hiders should
avoid pointing or making any other gestures. They should
restrict themselves to giving verbal instructions. The
seekers may ask questions.
4. The hiders give the seekers instructions and follow
them around the classroom as the seekers hunt for the
pictures and collect them as they find them. It is a
good idea to set a time limit.
