The High Five Game

The High Five Game

Goals: to practice greetings; to talk about cultures

1. Teach the students how to shake hands or how to 'high five' (two students raise their arms high and then slap their upraised hands together). Then teach this introduction: 'Hello. I am (Maria).'

2. Begin the game by saying the introduction with your own name and then shaking hands or giving the 'high five' to a student. That student repeats the introduction with his or her own name and then shakes hands with or 'high fives' the teacher.

3. When the students understand what to do, have them circulate around the room, find partners, say the introduction, and continue circulating.

4. Stop the activity when all the students have practiced several exchanges.

5. Invite students to tell how they say hello and greet one another in other cultures.
