Spelling
Bees
Goal: to practice spelling
1.
Divide the class into two teams. Have each group
of students think of a name for their team.
2.
Give a member of the first team the first word
to spell. If it is spelled correctly, that team
gets one point. The other team then gets the next
word.
3. For every word spelled correctly, a point is
awarded. The first team to reach a certain number
of points wins.
Variation: Set up the Spelling Bee so that all
students participate simultaneously.
- Begin
by having all the students stand up. Each student
is given a word to spell. If it is spelled correctly,
the student remains standing. If not, the student
sits down.
- Continue
giving out words to those students still standing
until all but one are eliminated.
- To involve the students
in the Bee even more, you may want them to write
up the spelling lists to be used and to call
out the words.
(The caller could be the winner from the last
Spelling Bee.)
