Meet the Authors
   
JJ Wilson

JJ Wilson is a highly esteemed ELT teacher, trainer and writer. A man of many achievements, JJ was a junior international at rugby union and rugby league, has written short fiction for Penguin, and co-wrote the hugely successful Language to Go course. His interests in ELT include "vocabulary acquisition, innovation in listening and reading pedagogy, and professional development issues". JJ is the co-author of the Intermediate and Advanced levels of Total English.

 



What is your idea of perfect happiness?
The moments while teaching, reading or writing when you become so immersed in what you are doing that you become unaware of time passing. You forget who and where you are.
 
What has teaching taught you?
To be patient.
 
How did you get into ELT?
I wanted to travel. I had no money. I loved, and still love, language. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
 
What is your greatest extravagance?
Buying books I'll never read.
 
What is your favourite word?
Lunch!
 
What is your favourite smell?
The sea.
 
What is the trait you most dislike in yourself?
Thinking of a brilliant answer or a witty comment six hours too late.
 
What is the trait you most dislike in others?
Instant wit.
 
What is your favourite feature of Total English?
The texts. Reading an interesting text is a joy in itself and a great way "into" a language.
 
What 3 words best describe your lessons?
Stimulating, structured, varied.
 
In which countries have you taught?
Egypt, Lesotho, Colombia, UK, Italy, US.
 
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
Anywhere new to me.
