Numbers dictation

Dictation is often seen as an old-fashioned activity. However it can be fun and exciting, particularly when your students do the dictating.

Aim
To revise and reinforce the different number systems that your students learn.

You need
Nothing.

Procedure

1.

Copy a selection of different kinds of numbers onto the board.

2.   Read out some of the numbers from the grid and ask students to write them down. They can look at the board to help themselves.

3.   When they have done this successfully, ask students to turn around so that they cannot see the board and continue doing the same thing.

4.   Finally, put students into pairs and ask one to look at the board and the other to face away from the board. Student one dictates five numbers from the board and student two writes them down. When they have checked together, they change roles.
