All About Choices

Michael Harris introduces Choices, a five-level course for mid and upper secondary students with a series of innovative features that bring choice into the classroom for both learners and teachers. This topic-driven course has strong educational content, integrated skills and a broad approach to language with a comprehensive focus on morphology, syntax, word grammar, lexical features, text grammar, functions, conversational grammar and phonology.

Choice is built into the course for learners with tasks that give students the chance to choose language to express themselves or to select what to speak or write about. A fold-out booklet at the back of the book provides learners with options for extra language practice and reference and Skills Builders provide support in terms of strategies and model texts. The workbook with MyEnglishLab provides students with online learning and instant feedback.

Teachers are also given many choices to adapt their lessons to their own context with optional video sections containing authentic DVDs and listening texts with two levels of difficulty. Culture Choices are optional lessons at the back of the book with cultural input, literature, songs and projects. Online Skills, in the workbook, develop 21st century skills like information-handling and critical thinking within the context of the Internet. Finally, the Active Teach DVD-ROM provides an interactive whiteboard plus photocopiable activities, teacher development workshops and a Test Master.

Face new challenges with renewed confidence

Anna Sikorzynska will look at specific problems teenagers create for their teachers and the strategies teachers can apply to cope with these problems and improve their students language skills at the same time. With the help of carefully designed materials we can appeal to the notoriously difficult teenage student and assist them in their personal, cognitive and linguistic development.

New Challenges is a topic-driven course aimed specifically at teenagers. It offers teenager interesting input, encourages them to reflect on the world around them and helps develop positive values. It provides carefully staged, achievable tasks, acknowledging the importance of teaching the building blocks of language: collocations, fixed phrases, sentence patterns, etc. It also supports the teacher with a clear workable approach: with New Challengesteachers can make lessons educational, successful and fun!
